Do you consider yourself an ‘old soul’? Current mainstream music doesn’t appeal to you like the iconic hits from the past decades that your parents and grandparents introduced you into? Or maybe you’re just experimenting with new sounds and looking for something to expand your playlist? If so, we present seven artists whose works are worth knowing.
I. Temples – Psychedelic rock straight from the British Isles. How to combine modern sound and at the same time capture the spirit of swinging London, where The Beatles ruled the charts? A perfect example is Temples. Although they’re not yet that recognizable among the wider audience, they’ve already been compared to Tame Impala. Their music is a tasteful compromise between modernity and retro without losing originality.
II. Greta Van Fleet – It consists of Kiszka brothers and Danny Wagner. Their debut caused quite a stir in the music industry and divided public opinion. Some see in them a chance for the return of the golden era of rock, others accuse them of copying Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant himself commented on GvF, praising Josh Kiszka’s vocals. In 2019, their debut album From the Fires won a Grammy for Best Rock Album. If you like the 70s/80s rock sounds, then Greta van Fleet would be a great choice.
III. Allvays – is a Canadian band that creates music in the style of indie pop and dream pop. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2014, topped the US college charts and received favorable reviews from Rolling Stone magazine. In the following years, the band received further accolades such as the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year.
IV. Aurora-A musical gem straight from the land of the Fjords. Aurora Aksnes is one of the most interesting and charismatic artists of the young generation. She combines stage maturity with childlike sensitivity and free spirit. If you appreciate personalities such as Björk or Enya, Aurora will surely steal your heart.
V. Florence And The Machine – The band is undoubtedly one of the brightest stars in independent music. Their work over the years has spanned various genres – folk, rock, indie pop, you name it. And all this is enriched by the wonderful vocals of Florence Welch, whose aura and presence are worthy of a true bohemian queen.
VI. Lana del Rey – Lana del Rey has proven that she is not a one-hit-wonder and her position in the music industry is well established. Although it has been 12 years since her debut, we are still captivated by her Hope Sandoval-like melancholic voice and cinematic aesthetics that pays homage to Old Hollywood glamour.
VII. Goat – Extraordinary alternative and experimental fusion music group from Sweden. Through their music, Goat brings the listeners closer to the history and culture of the Korpilombolo village located in the north of the country, which was once strongly associated with Voodoo practices. The concerts are a real feast for eyes and ears. Masks, colorful costumes, ritual dances, and sounds of guitars and African drums. Their original style was quickly noticed and with time they started to perform at the most famous music festivals such as Glastonbury or Coachella.
